“I strongly urge you to go and see this band live” Giles Peterson.

With a recommendation like that, it’ll be silly not to at least pay attention. If you haven’t already heard of Sons of Kemet… seriously, what? Possibly one of, if not THE most exciting Jazz band from the UK, their debut album ‘Burn’ rightly winning the MOBO Jazz album award in 2013.

Featuring Shabaka (yes, that Shabaka) who has also plays with Hello Skinny and Melt Yourself Down, Seb Rochford (yes, that Seb) the acclaimed drummer with twice mercury nominated Polar Bear, and displaying that riotous, sax-tuba-and-two-drum melodies that wouldn’t be out of place in a carnival/jam packed warehouse rave, Sons of Kemet live are as close as you can get to a guaranteed good night out.

Oct 29th at XOYO, tickets available here. Go, people; beg borrow steal for this one.

“This is Jazz like you’ve never heard before” The Guardian

“Rasta rhythms, Middle-East and West-African melodies and straight-up rock Energy to ignite a dance floor” The Quietus
